Colombian Congress issued new measures to promote employment for youngsters that are attending to basic secondary, medium and superior education; as well as incentive the employability of youngsters between 18 and 28 years old in the private sector.
Among the measures determined are:
- Establish that internships that does not have any relation with the area of study of the practitioner should be considered as being an employment relation with all its legal implications.
- Allow minors, with their parent’s authorization, to participate in internships of labor experiences that could be considered as employment experience for the actual or upcoming formal education programs of their choosing.
- Decree the regulation from the Government to stablish and strengthen strategic partnerships to: i) allow the exploration of talents and interests from youngsters in basic secondary and medium education programs, regarding the fourth industrial revolution, as well as the XXI century and digital era challenges (leadership, emotional intelligence, adaptation to chance, among others); and ii) strengthen learning in employability and entrepreneurship. These measures have a special focus on youngsters that are part of vulnerable population.
- Promote employability of youngsters between 18 and 28 years old though the mandatory inclusion of positions assigned to this population in public contracting. This incentive will be applicable three (3) months after the law is enacted.
