Within the Mining Round, the National Mining Agency ("ANM") entered into its first special mining contract with CARBOMAS S.A.S. for the exploration and exploitation of copper in one of the mining areas that the National Government qualified as strategic (AEM).
Through this mining contract, CARBOMAS S.A.S. will carry out the exploration and exploitation of copper in the municipality of La Jagua del Pilar, in the department of La Guajira; and with its execution, it is expected that CARBOMAS S.A.S. positively impacts on the incomes of the region and the country, since the mining contract set forth a 5% additional economic consideration to the agreed royalties.
It is important to remember that as per Law 1753 of 2015, the ANM would determine the minerals of strategic interest for the country, with respect to which, based on available geoscientific information, it could delimit strategic mining reserve areas for evaluation on their mining potential and their subsequent granting through objective selection processes.
Thus, was born the Mining Round, through which the National Government, headed by the ANM, seeks to promote the growth and sustainable development of the Colombian mining sector within a framework of technical, environmental, and social responsibility, in which the minerals of strategic interest that the country has are extracted rationally under the best operational standards.
The Mining Round, which began in February 2021 with the publication of the terms of reference, offered 5 strategic blocks for the exploration and exploitation of copper in the departments of Cesar and La Guajira, being CARBOMAS S.A.S. the first company qualified to participate in the round to be awarded one of these blocks.
