By means of Resolution 8470 of 2019, the Civil Registration Office by way of exception will grant Colombian nationality to children of Venezuelan parents born in Colombia as a measure to minimize stateless children. 

This exceptional measure applies to children born in Colombia from August 19th, 2015 and can be requested for the following two years counted from August 20th, 2019. 

In order to be eligible to apply for this benefit both parents should be Venezuelans. Alternatively, the birth certificate should only reflect the name of the Venezuelan parent. This benefit is not applicable if one of the parents is not Venezuelan.
