Through Resolution 507, the National Government allowed the purchase of vaccines by the private sector, under a series of requirements.
This decision seeks to complement the National Vaccination Plan and only vaccines that have the endorsement of INVIMA will be allowed. The execution of the measure will be monitored by the authorities and they must be free of charge.
As of April 21, the private sector could start negotiations with pharmaceutical companies for the acquisition of doses. These are some of the requirements for their purchase and distribution:
- They may not be sold to citizens; they will be of free application.
- They must be in accordance with the National Vaccination Plan.
- They must be supported by a logistics that complies with the refrigeration and application conditions.
- The application cannot disrupt human resources that are concentrated in the National Vaccination Plan.
- Acquisition may only be made through the pharmaceutical company's head office or through distributors authorized by INVIMA.
President Duque clarified that these criteria were established in such a way that "the principle of equity is not violated and that this does not become a business of intermediaries who have no experience in the sector". So far in Colombia, health personnel and adults over 80 have been immunized, and the campaign is currently focusing on people over 70. The current stage is the second, and will eventually cover people aged 60 and over, but it is not clear when it will be completed.
