Empresas de transporte investigadas

The Superintendency of Transportation has determined that several companies (including freight transportation companies and cargo generators) did not comply with the requirements of the SICE-TAC, paying freight rates below the minimum operating costs. As a result of the above, preliminary investigations have been initiated, among others, against 1138 freight transportation companies and 46 freight generators to assess their possible participation in these irregularities.

The agency also explained that the use of advanced technologies has made it possible to verify compliance with the SICE-TAC system, one of the main demands of the freight transport unions seeking to put an end to the stoppages in different regions of the country.

In addition to the problems related to the price of diesel, the transporters are requesting a review of freight rates and the renewal of the truck fleet, which they consider essential to improve their operating conditions.

For his part, the Minister of Finance, Ricardo Bonilla, pointed out that, although the transport unions complain that the freight rates are insufficient, the real problem lies in the fact that the cargo generators do not pay them what is due. The Superintendence of Transportation is reviewing this situation to ensure fair treatment.

Regarding the renewal of the truck fleet, Bonilla mentioned that the “Uno a Uno” program, which seeks to replace old trucks with new ones, is already underway and has financing. However, according to the Minister, transporters are not applying it correctly, since many unloaded trucks have entered the market, which has generated an oversupply of vehicles. This imbalance, said Bonilla, is a problem that the transporters themselves must manage, rather than the National Government.

Finally, the Minister added that businessmen have introduced an excessive number of used trucks, which has overloaded the vehicle fleet. This has led to questioning who is behind the importation of these vehicles, given the negative impact it has on the supply of transport available in the country.
