Since Colombia does not have accredited verification institutions and on the occasion of the difficulty of continuing the implementation of the non-causation mechanism for the carbon tax, the national government issued Decree 446 of 2020, where it established the rules applicable to the verification bodies for emission reductions and removals of Greenhouse Gases (GHG).

The decree establishes that the GHG verification institutions must be accredited by the National Accreditation Body of Colombia (ONAC) or by a signatory accreditation body member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF)

The latter is an association of accreditation assessment institutions and others with interest in conformity assessment on management systems, services, personnel, products, and other similar conformity assessment programs.
