The scope of application of the Decree is the entire national territory and constitutes a strategic and long-term vision for the sector. Its purpose is to align the protection of the country's natural capital with the economic and sociocultural development of tourism.

Another objective of the policy is to strengthen the sustainability of the tourism value chain in Colombia, which will in turn: (i) improve its competitiveness; (ii) guarantee the conservation and responsible use of natural capital; and (iii) generate greater added value and differentiation for the country.

The implementation of this policy will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, which, in addition, must submit an annual progress report.
