Escazú Agreement approved in fourth debate
The House of Representatives, in fourth debate, voted favorably the bill by which the Escazú Agreement is approved and will be submitted to the final conciliation procedure in Congress.
This is a regional agreement for the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, which was adopted in Escazú, Costa Rica, on March 4, 2018, and signed by Colombia on December 11, 2019.
The objective of the agreement is capacity building and cooperation, as well as the implementation in the state’s parties of the rights to:
- Access to environmental information
- Public participation in environmental decision-making
- Access to justice in environmental matters
Monitoring the immigration bills
As of October 10, 2022, the Congress of the Republic is processing 7 bills related to the immigration sector: two bills were presented in the last legislature, which took place from July 20, 2021, to June 20, 2022, and the remaining 5 in the current legislature, which runs from July 20, 2022, to June 20, 2023.
