Regulations for the promotion of high-performance athletes training are ready

Through Decree 1052 of 2022, the Ministry of Sports issued regulations with the purpose of preparing high performance athletes -athletes and parathletes- for the country's sports reserve; as well as the articulation of the National Sports System for the development of the process of formation, search, identification, selection and training of minors and young people with skills, talent and potential to become performance or high-performance athletes of the country. The decree also establishes rules for the support to women's performance and high-performance sports, the strategy for the conformation of the national Olympic, Paralympic and deaf-Olympic teams, the recognition of performance and high-performance results, the sports retirement stage, sports glories, and institutional articulation.

 


 

New rules on youth employment in Colombia's public sector

The Congress of the Republic issued Law 2214 of June 22, 2022, through which Article 196 of Law 1955 of 2019 regarding the generation of employment for the young population of the country is regulated, whose objective is the implementation of public sector measures tending to the elimination of employability barriers for people between 18 and 28 years old and the expansion of the supply of jobs in state entities at the national level. Public entities must, within 12 months following the entry into force of the law, adapt their manuals of functions and labor competencies with the corresponding equivalences, enabling the appointment of these young people, as long as they meet other requirements established for the corresponding position. 

 


 

Modifications to Safety Regulations for Underground Mining labor

Through Decree 944 of 2022, issued by the Ministries of Health and Social Protection, Labor and Mines and Energy, the Safety Regulations for Underground Mining labors, applicable to natural and legal persons developing underground mining labors in the Colombian territory, were modified. Likewise, special obligations were included for the mining employers, to provide training in underground mining labors to employees under their charge through institutions such as SENA, technical institutions, technological and universities duly approved by the Ministry of National Education, institutions for work and human development and family compensation funds.

 


 

José Antonio Ocampo appointed as Petro's Finance Minister

Gustavo Petro appointed José Antonio Ocampo as Minister of Finance. Ocampo is a sociologist and political scientist and is one of the country's most prominent economists. He was Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Director of the National Planning Department, Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Member of the Board of Directors of Banco de la República, Executive Director of ECLAC and Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations. Multiple sectors have expressed their support for Ocampo's appointment due to his moderate stance and technical capacity.
