New Regulation on the Sanitary Registration of Medications in Colombia

Through Decree 334 of 2022, issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the provisions for the renewal, modification and suspension of health registrations of chemically synthesized drugs, medicinal, biological and homeopathic gases were modified. Also, aspects of the information and publicity of medicines and phytotherapeutic products were regulated and measures were adopted to guarantee the supply of chemically synthesized medicines, medicinal and biological gases.
The decree will take effect 12 months after the date of its publication and contemplates a transition regime.

On March 10 of this year, the President of Colombia, Ivan Duque, met with the President of the United States, Joe Biden. Several announcements emerged from said meeting, namely: (i) inclusion of Colombia in the list of non-NATO allied countries, which reinforces Colombia as one of the main allies of the United States in the region, which is expected to generate greater international cooperation in the fight against drugs and direct foreign investment; (ii) Colombia's ability to provide hydrocarbons to the United States and; (iii) donation to Colombia of two million vaccines against Covid-19.
US Senate of Foreign Affairs Committee Drafting a Bill with Possible Benefits for Colombia.

A bill was presented to the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Senate of the United States that, among other purposes, could create a Colombian-American Business Fund for up to USD 200M, of which at least 35% would be allocated to SMEs dedicated to digital transformation, at least 50% in SMEs owned by women and the rest in SMEs dedicated to the growth of the agricultural sector in Colombia.
