Néstor Osorio Londoño
Néstor Osorio Londoño is a Colombian lawyer and diplomat. In October 2019, he joined Brigard Urrutia as Consultant for Europe, based in London. From 2014 to 2018, he served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
In 1974 he began working at the National Planning Department (DNP) as Legal Advisor and then as Secretary General, until 1978, when he held the post of Deputy of the Permanent Delegation of Colombia to the International Coffee Organization in London. Subsequently, he was appointed Head of Delegation until 1994. During this period, he also represented the country at both the International Cocoa and the International Sugar Organizations, as well as in United Nations, UNCTAD and GATT-WTO conferences.
Osorio was the first Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the World Trade Organization (WTO) between 1994 and 1999. In this post, he served as Chairman of the WTO Trade Policy Review Council; Chairman of the International Textiles Bureau and Chairman of the WTO Agriculture Committee.
In 2000 he was appointed Special Advisor to the Government of Colombia on Coffee and Trade Affairs, until 2002, at which time he was elected Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization in London. In May 2007, the Council of this organization re-elected him for a second term.
He also served as Permanent Representative Ambassador of Colombia to the United Nations in New York from 2010 to 2014. As Ambassador, he represented the country as a member of the Security Council that he presided in April 2011 and July 2012. Later, in January 2013, he was elected President of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) for a one-year term.
In the academic field, he has been a Professor of constitutional law, public law and economics at Universidad del Rosario; He has also been a speaker at various international forums and universities and has published articles in journals specializing in public law, international trade and commodities.
