The National Mining Agency announced that, as from October of this year, it will implement a new Mining Cadaster.

With the purpose of receiving observations, the National Mining Agency (“ANM”) has published the draft resolution through which it will adopt a transition period in order to implement the Mining Management Integral System (“SIGM”), which is expected to be operating on October of this year, and that will replace the old Mining Cadaster.

With the SIGM, the ANM expects to dynamize, update and expedite mining management in Colombia in a secure and efficient manner, allowing citizens, investors and different actors of the mining sector to access a technological platform with a dynamic and updated geographic database in order to file, follow-up and manage in an efficient manner their concession agreement applications, mining titles and any other process before the ANM.

For this purpose, the SIGM will include a Grid System. This system is the result of a mandate introduced initially created by Law 1753 of 2015 (2014-2018 National Development Plan) with the purpose of organizing and dividing the Colombian territory in cells of 1.24 hectares (111mts x 111mts approx.). This will allow direct and updated access to information on the country’s natural resources, their availability and the geographic, environmental and social conditions that may impact such resources.

Hence, considering the business rules set forth in the aforementioned draft resolution published for observations, the mining applications and other processes that involve mining management (such as assignments, integrations or withdrawal of areas) will automatically be updated to the grid system.

The ANM will receive comments and observations on the draft resolution up until July 15, 2019
