Pursuant to the Directive No. 02 (the “Directive”) issued by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (the “SIC”) on November 3d that year, the National Database Registry (the “Registry”) was enabled since November 9, 2015 granting a period of one year for data controllers (i.e. the entities empowered to decide about databases and the processing of the personal data contained therein) that are (i) private legal entities registered in Chambers of Commerce or (ii) partially government owned corporations (“sociedades de economía mixta”) to register their databases in the Registry.
In this lines, the deadline for the registration of the databases expires next June 30th of 2017.
The Registry, together with the accountability principle, will be used by the SIC as a clear benchmark to investigate and sanction breaches of the Colombian General Personal Data Protection Regime.
